Included here are just a few samples of work to show my wide range of publishing skills.
Digital Photography
While photography is mostly a hobby, I am skilled enough to produce commercial grade images when needed.
Digital Imaging
I’ve worked with Adobe Photoshop for around 10 years, and classroom instruction only added to my abilities. There is great potential for image restoration as well as collaging unrelated things together for advertising purposes as seen in the last image. I am also comfortable using other photo editors like GIMP.
Adobe InDesign
I was not introduced to InDesign until graduate school, but I immediately had the opportunity to dig right in by completing all layout and design of a small press book for The Dialogue Institute in Philadelphia. The project was perfect, because I learn best by doing. Later, for my capstone project, I created a full magazine layout, which reinforced my design skills and gave me the opportunity to learn more about InDesign. I have since completed another book project with the Dialogue Institute.
Adobe Illustrator
I don’t have the art background that a typical graphic artists have, but Illustrator is a very powerful program in so many ways. I have used it for serious uses like designing logos, including proposals for an educational society (they chose the first design) and an interfaith organization, as well as for fun uses like you’ll see below.
Adobe Dreamweaver
I have been using Dreamweaver as my primary means of creating web resources for over 10 years. I use it to do quick HTML layouts as well as to create CSS stylesheets and WordPress themes. Recent projects include EntropiaConsulting.com and PremiereShredding.net.
Adobe Flash
I was introduced to Adobe Flash at Rosemont, as well. For my Flash Animation class, I created three main projects. The first was to create a “bouncing balls” animation, and the second was a cartoon short. I had lots of fun with both of those. The third project was a web site intro page, used on my previous landing page.
Video Editing
During my final semester, I discovered Final Cut Pro, a highly addictive and effective video editing package, and I brushed up on general videography techniques as well. My first project is available online in a low resolution version, but the others are too large to include here. To move forward, I hope to get a copy of Adobe Premiere Pro soon, but I’m currently acquainting myself with Windows Movie Maker as a quick and easy way to get video online.
Social Media and Internet
I have dabbled in a little of everything web-related since the Internet came to dominate American life in the late 1990s. From using free and paid hosting services to adding Facebook and Twitter applications to web sites, I try to remain up-to-date on web trends. Most recently, I installed WordPress as a content management system on this site, including many of the latest plugins for social media sharing and commenting.
Putting It All Together
My most recent endeavor involves fine-tuning my project management skills, while also learning Microsoft Project (a fantastic program!). Ultimately, I’m the type who needs to manage large publishing projects and be in the middle of the madness. I can’t simply sit and wait for projects to be given to me.
