My Name is Glenn…I’m an Addict.

Without school and excessive driving to take up all my time, I finally have time to play with the camera I bought over 3 years ago. I wanted the full power of an SLR camera and the ease of digital, so I went with a Canon Digital Rebel. But I wasn’t quite ready for all the features! I had come from an all-manual Pentax K1000, so all the auto settings made life harder, not easier. Now maybe I can at least learn half of it, but I’m already addicted.

I have already just about maxed out the allotment of 200 displayed photos on Flickr. The rest will still be there, but only the latest 200 will show. I never thought for a second that I’d fill that up in a matter of weeks, but I have a lot of experimentation and learning to do! And now I already have to get the paid account, or find a better way. Sheesh.

White VelvetI’m mostly taking lots of photos of common things around the house, and that often means food. I guess that’s a good move, because the most popular photo so far on Flickr has been of a turkey burger. Who knew? I did add it to a group called “I Love Food,” so I guess it makes sense.

Some things aren’t new, though. I’m still addicted to nature and flowers. It’s lucky that I have time to dabble with the camera when the magnolias on campus are in bloom. I’m in love with those magnolias, and now I’ve captured them forever. (If only I could capture the smell!)

Soon I hope to make time to get out and about. I may be moving from the area, so it would be great to document my life here. So many other people have taken great shots of the area, so I don’t have to be manic about it. But I would prefer they be photos of the world AS I see it, not simply what I see. I did a bit of that with my phone camera, but the Rebel is blowing me away.

My only worry? If I keep it up I’ll neglect doing anything to actually make that onward move.

  1. It’s not the burger, it’s the fries. Yum! I thought you didn’t eat meat? Did you come back over to the dark side? LOL.

Great photo of the magnolia. It’s about the only thing that reminds me of Mississippi that doesn’t make me want to run for the hills.

Just thought I’d pop in and see how things were going with you. You update your blog about like I update mine…rarely.

Guess I’ll have to invade your email inbox. Hope I’m not crowded out by all the promises of cheap drugs from Canada and wealthy family members in Cambodia

  2. No, the turkey burger wasn’t mine. My burger is the double veggie with Swiss. Mmmm. It was BANGIN’!

Yeah, I love the magnolias. The old women’s college on campus had magnolias from back in the day. Now the university plants the smaller varieties everywhere—they smell the same.

I slacked off on the blog while I finished up school. I figured I didn’t need any distractions, and the things I might have wanted to say would have been rather involved. LOL So I’ll try to post more, but hopefully mostly light-hearted stuff.

All my spam is about Viagra. LOL The rest goes to my spam folder, but those Viagra folks know how to make the return address MY email address, so they go to the inbox. Bastards.
